Screen is black when opening keybored

This may be my xbox but id like to know for sure. When i type something in chat, or open my xbox menu, the screen is black. I can still type but i cannot see what i am type until i close the keybored. It gets very frustrating trying to type coordinates for a command, not to mention if i mess up i have to start all over since i cant back space to where i was, for i cannot see. This also happens when i get notifications. Meaning, if i am playing and i get a message or sm, my screen will go black until the notification is finshed appearing. This may be a problem on my side, but i just wanted to check for sure. Thanks.
