Painting not dropping when broken

I was playing minecraft with my younger sister, and we wanted to have a painting hung up above the table. We got the wrong painting pattern that we didn’t want, so I broke it. The painting didn’t drop on the floor, though. We made another painting, wrong pattern, we broke it, painting didn’t drop. TL;DR: Painting not dropping after being broken. (This is in survival, btw)
