Wandering trader looses arms

So i was exploring around a forest and found a wandering trader. Although I had enough emerlads, I went close to it and it lost its armsand its head wasnt moving for a few seconds. I didnt know what was wrong so I slowly walked away from it. If it's possible to fix it then please fix it. I feel bad for the trader.
