Bees linked to beehives disappear

Bees that are home bound to the player crafted beehive keep disappearing. Bees in naturally spawning bee nests are not effected. I've seen this on a realm but I haven't tested it on single player. Also I've only noticed  it happening when I leave the realm and come back on.
