Boats are infinite

When crafting and placing a boat (I had made a birch boat), it stayed in my inventory yet placed as well. I thought it was a lag thing, but upon placing the boat again, the same issue happened.
To sum it up, you can place as many boats as you want while the boat item stays in your inventory.
