Mobs spawn too much when u updated my game to 1.17.10 and only spawn on edges of dark patches

I have a survival world and my game has been spawning mobs like crazy I turned my smooth lightning down and I saw that when there's a patch of darkness the monsters spawn ONLY on the edges and they spawn ALOT And it's REALLY DIFFICULT TO KEEP KILLING THEM PLS FIX THIS
