On my mobile phone Minecraft will not let me join any servers or allow me to join any multiplayer games

The Minecraft on my phone will NOT let me join any servers or allow me to join any multiplayer worlds with my friends. It always says, ‘unable to connect to multiplayer’. How do I fix this?? I have already tried logging out and back in and refreshing the app.
