End kills upon returning

Some friends and I (I play on ps4, another plays on xbox and another plays on pc) had went into the end to resummon the ender dragon, and when we went through the center portal to return to the overworld, we all got a death screen. All of them with the same message, that we fell from a high place. All of our items were nowhere to be found as well.
