Hitting any entity with an item thats is not meant for attacking (stick, hand, etc) dosent deal damage

This is inconvenient because when i have to destroy a painting or a boat, i have to use a tool, and if there are hostile mobs at my spawn point, I cant fight back to get my things back after dying. As you can see in the picture, the painting didnt fall off after being punched.
