Multiplayer issues

So I was trying to play multiplayer with a friend and wouldn't let me invite them nor join their game and once I backed out of the world I saw a message on the realms bar and it said I wont be able to play on realms because of the way my Microsoft account was set up. So I looked at my privacy settings and everything was set up fine and it still continued to show that message. By the way the world I was playing on wasn't on realms either, just a regular world trying to play with my friend, so if you can help me with figuring out this problem soon that'd be great! thank you
