Won't allow cross-play with switch and xbox

It started with having to restart our minecrafts every time we wanted to join each other, but after the update it wouldn't let us play at all, just says 'unable to connect to world' It doesn't matter the game mode, and it doesn't matter whether its a downloaded map or a plain world.
