Torches not providing light

Placed torches randomly stop lighting any space from where they are. In order to fix, the torch has to be broken and replaced. 

 

I don't know how to explain this properly, will try to get a picture next time I see it.. 

 

Edit: attached screenshot. The screenshot may be slightly misleading due to my brightness configuration but the lit area a little further is a properly functioning torch.
