shield not blocking when holding down right mouse button

Shield does not block when holding down right mouse button when ingame, things i have tried doing 

1. updated Minecraft from 1.17.0 to 1.17.2 in Microsoft app store.
2. checking that there is a key bound to place block / block (mouse2/right mouse button)
3. placing a block to make sure it still uses the same key then equipped shield to offhand and held down button, no blocking.
4. rebound place block / block to letter V on keyboard and pressing/holding V places block, but doesnt block with shield.
5. Checking that there is no resource/behavior packs activated.
6. Created a new world.
7. restarted whole PC and reentered Minecraft Windows 10 Edition and tried blocking with shield, no shield block.

 

PC is a thinkpad X131E laptop with i3-3227u CPU with 500GB SSD and 8GB of ram.
