Whenever I go through a portal there isn't a portal when I arrive in the nether 1.17.2

When me and my friends go through a nether portal we don't get a portal generated on the other side in the nether. One of us had to trade to get out and rn they are stuck again. Linked and unlinked portals it does this. It's really nerve wracking because it spawns you hundreds of blocks away from the actual portals correct placement, so if you'd please try and patch this up that would be grateful thank you.
