Cannot see friend in game after he joins my game world.

When my friend joins my world or I join one of his, we have no issue with the world joining process. However, once we are connected. he can see my character but I cannot see his. We can both interact with each others characters (attack, give items to) but I cannot see his. He is on Nintendo Switch and I am on PC.
