Hoppers Aren't Feeding Furnaces

Hoppers on my realm server are allowing coal to flow into a furnace system, but nothing else is going in.  Smeltable items such as raw iron or raw gold just stay in the hopper.  The furnace will, however, still accept manually placed items and drop them out through another hopper into a chest just fine.
