Death upon using exit portal

After defeating the dragon, I went through the exit portal as usual. However, I was greeted with the death screen after "falling from a high place". All my levels were lost and so was everything I had. I repeated this multiple times and it happens every time. It doesn't matter if you walk in, jump in or run in. All items will be lost instead of floating
