Slow walking occasionally following strafing/moving backwards

Simple enough, strafing, moving back, and diagonally occasionally cause extremely slow movement forwards, which makes traversing very hard and annoying. It isn't drift, as my character doesn't move on their own when idle, and the severity of the slowness depends. Sometimes after moving backwards, the character barely inches forwards, other times doesn't move at all, etc. Tried resetting controls, restarting Minecraft, and hard restarting the Xbox.
