Activator rails ejecting mobs on the trail behind it

I have a villager trading hall that uses activator rails to eject villagers into individual cells. For some reason, instead of ejecting them onto the block to the right of the rail, they now get elected onto the block behind it. As a result, the whole rail system is essentially broken, as the new villagers just get dumped onto the rail itself and run amok. Assistance with this annoying matter would be appreciated, thank you.
