Carpets go dark when a block is on top of them.

I have been working on this high rise apartment in my Minecraft world recently. Whenever I am making the kitchen in the apartments I put carpet on one part of it and then I put wood cabinets on top of them but whenever I do it, it makes the carpets dark and making it look bad. I really need it to be fixed because it makes my builds look bad in my Minecraft world.
