All I see is a black screen upon launch.

I updated my Minecraft on the day of the release of the caves and cliffs update part 1 and ever since when I start up the game all that shows up is a black screen. I cant access my worlds or even see the menu I cant do anything. I cant think of what caused this but its been around a week, I don't want to uninstalling the game in fear I will lose my worlds. (the attached image is of what I see on start up.)
