cauldron catches you on fire with fire resistance

ok, I was testing something to make a trap, I put honey under a cauldron and filled it with lave, this is to stop players from jumping out, but when I went in with fire res, I started taking fire damage, I did this a couple of other times with friends and it had the same effect.
