Raw iron isn't smelting

I booted up a new world in 1.17 using my Xbox 1. Everything seemed normal, I was tripping out over the new caves and such until I try to smelt some raw iron and it doesn't smelt. I know I'm doing it right, I have a furnace, raw iron on the top square, and coal on the bottom.
