Entering nether portal transports you somewhere else randomly thousands of blocks away

Often when I enter a nether portal in the overworld I get transported somewhere else in the nether thousands of blocks away. This has happened 4 times now in the past month. It doesn’t do this all the time though, as it is mostly fine, but it is significant enough when it does happen.
