Nether portal teleported me to wrong cords

When I was entering my nether portal from the overworld instead of teleporting me to the nether equivalent cordenants it teleported me exactly to my overworld cordenants and away from my portal. For example if I enter at 100x 2000z in the over world it would teleport me to those cordenants without my portal.
