Lanterns and pots on tight spaces causing mobs to get stuck

Mobs seem to think that they can get through lanterns and pots on tight spaces, but they can't as those lanterns are blocking the way. Yet they continue to attempt doing so, and so they freeze and jitter in place forever. Mobs should treat lanterns and pots as full blocks, avoiding going through it if impossible.
