Minecraft realm crashes when I try to go through the nether portal with a pet

So I'm in a friends realm and everytime I try to go through a nether portal so I can get back on the over world with one of my pets, the realm crashes and we get the error "disconnected from server". It has happened 3 times, and all the members in the realm disconnect when it happens.
