Sheild Displacement

When I Played Minecraft at 10:47qm yesterday (Eastern Time USA) i joined my freind world that when I made a sheild the crafting was normal be when I put in in my off hand it instead of holding up i went to up i was supposed to go 90 degrees up but went 180 and never protected.
I tried in my own world and the same happened.
