Holes in bedrock floor

I was at the bottom of a ravine, next to a chunk that generated the new depths and cave, and got pushed into a hole in the bedrock. I was pushed by the water into a hole of lava. As I swam back to the top of the lava, the lava disappeared and I dropped further into the hole. The sides of the hole we're all bedrock, so there was no getting out.
