My End Portal made me spawn mid-air and made me die in the void.

So I was playing Minecraft and then I decided to enter the End to find the End city. So I got all my best armor and gear and went into the portal. But when I spawned there, it spawned me mid-air and I was falling into the void. I quickly tried to get my ender pearls to quickly get out of there but I died, I quickly closed Minecraft to see if it wouldn't save, but it did and I opened my world with all my gear and armor completely gone.
