Exiting out of upward elevators might cause damage

For example, I got an ender pearl stasis chamber. If I get inside, then wait for a few seconds, and then jump out, I will lose some hearts, as if I was taking fall damage. If my theory is correct, I could be in there for more than 10 seconds and die because ‘I fell from a high place’ which is systematically incorrect.
