Item drops when inventory gets full

When I am on the windows 10 edition of minecraft and on a server, I will have a diamond sword in my hand and then when my inventory gets full example: picking up a bunch of items on the ground, my weapon in hand just drops on the ground randomly and I have to re pick it up.
