Cannot connect to each other's worlds

My friend and I are both on IOS pocket addition, are friends on the game but cannot connect to each other's worlds. Neither of us have any firewall or antivirus software installed. We get to a 'connecting to server' screen but then it says unable to connect. We also have latest edition installed. Thanks for your help
