entering the nether teleports you to the same coordinates as the overworld portal

As I was going to the nether from my other house that was about 1000 blocks in the overworld and that I wanted to go back to the spawn region but then when going through the portal I end up at the same coordinates as where the overworld portal is and left me stranded and I entered the nether normally not eating food or using pearls.
