Secondary Character Losing Inventory and Experience / Dual Identity Created

Immediately with the new update, (210), I tried to join my son's world on our Xbox 1s (which we play on together - same console) as a secondary player in his world all my experience and inventory was gone and my character was in a different location.  I tried restarting the console multiple times over a 12 hour period and I couldn't get my original character back with experience and inventory.  This happened to me before a few months ago but my original character would come back after a couple restarts.  Never been this bad before.  Please resolve this.  Ruins a lot of the fun when this keeps happening.
