1.16.210 splitscreen: player 2 loses all items

I logged into my survival world today and a friend joined me. My stuff was all there and I was at my bed but my friend was in a cave somewhere with no items. He did not die and was in my house when I left the game.

 

Edit: all splitscreen data has been totally wiped
