Broken Furnaces and Villagers

Furnaces at my home somehow stopped smelting armor. I tried multiple things but thet never work anymore. 

I went to a village to trade, the villagers were outside. They never slept at night nor responded to the ringing bell when I hit it. I tried to trade but they are unable to identify what I have or refresh the trades.
