Hostile mobs don't spawn in any mountain biomes that contain snow and ice.

Because the snow based mountain biomes consist primarily of ice, snow layers, and powdered snow, it completely disallows any and all mobs from spawning, apart from goats. This in turn makes mountains less of a challenge to conquer during the nighttime.
