Ender pearl stops working when thrown into nether portal

Issue

When you throw an ender pearl into a nether portal it will stop working, but the entity is still there. I have no idea if this is intentional or not.

steps to reproduce
1. Throw ender pearl into the nether portal
2. Enter the Nether via the portal
