When the block directly below a door is broken the door is not dropped.

When I was replacing the dirt below my door with stone brick, I thought the door would just drop.

The dirt dropped as normal, but the door did not.

Recreate
1. Place a door
2. Mine the block that supports the door.
3. Watch in awe and wonder as the door vanishes. (Optional)
