Trees no longer disinegrating or dropping sapplings after recent caves and cliffs update

After creating a backup of my world and enabling the new beta for the caves and cliffs update, when I chop down  a tree, the leaves no longer disappear or drop sapplings. Is this a known bug or is this only an issue I am having? The leaves on the trees do not disappear at all.
