Placing Sideways Chains In Liquids Causes Liquids To Unrender

How to reproduce
1. find a lava lake that is several blocks deep
2. Place a line of sideways chains at top layer of lava
or
1. Place a line of sideways chains at the top layer of the ocean
2. Remove the water from the chains by placing a sponge above the chains

Results
Liquids below the chains will will unrender, allowing you to see through them.

Expected results
They should render as usual
