My diamond pickaxe despawned way too quickly after i died

My diamond pickaxe despawned way too quickly after I died. To be more specific after my friend killed me in front of my house I went to look for my pickaxe in front of my house. It disappeared, I can confirm it disappeared because no mobs picked it up,no cacti or lava was nearby,and after killing my friend I was disappointed to find out they did not have it either.My friend didnt have time to put it in a chest because I went back to my front yard in 5-10 seconds.I hope we can resolve this issue so items don't randomly respawn after 5-10 seconds.
