CPU usage goes through the roof

After playing minecraft for a few minutes the CPU usage for the process starts going up and up until the VM crashes. I have to close the app and restart it and then I can play for a little while longer before it does it again. It is a consistent problem allowing only about 10 min or so of play each time.

Windows 10 Pro
Intel Core i5 2.9GHz
12 GB mem
64 Bit
Screen Resolution 2560 x 1600
VMWare Fusion Professional Version 7.1.2

Update:
I reinstalled a fresh windows 10, not upgrade, and issue still occurs.
