Inventory count display too centred

The size of the item count numbers within the hotbar/inventory/chests have been increased, which is a good thing for my old eyesight.
In the hotbar, the numbers are aligned in the far bottom right of each slot, so it doesn't obscure the item image too much.
However when opening up the inventory or a chest, the numbers are more central so they obscure the image, making it harder to tell similar or smaller items apart. There seems to be plenty of empty space to the right/bottom of each slot (on my phone anyway) that the number could be displayed in without obscuring the item so much.
