Unable to log in to Microsoft Account on Nintendo Switch

Sign in to Microsoft does not work.

 

Click "Sign in with a Microsoft Account". Shows "Connecting...".

Then displays the web url aka.ms/remoteconnect with a code. On PC, I log in to the correct Microsoft account, and then open the url and enter the code, which confirms that I have completed the task succesfully. Then I press B on the Nintendo Switch. The screen returns to the main menu for Minecraft, but nothing has changed.

I have repeated the process many times, with different user IDs and it makes no difference.

I have deleted save data, uninstalled the software and resinstalled and it makes no difference.

This is preventing my daughter from accessing one key part of this game - to play with her friends. Hopefully it can be fixed otherwise we may as well ask for a refund and continue to play on a different console.
