Items disappearing instantly after death

I was in my trading hall when an iron golem spawned so I tried to kill it forgetting I had taken my armour off so it killed me and my items instantly despawned my spawn point was about 10 seconds away and by the time I got to the place where I died all my items were gone. I don't know how to recreate this to prove it happened as it was just chance I believe. There was no lava or mobs around so that can’t be the reason my items disappeared.
