Zombie spawner not working correctly with player nearby

Made a zombie grinder, and when I am within 10-15 blocks, roughly, no zombies spawn, but when I am directly above the spawner (between 2 and 5 blocks) it spawns out zombies, the spawner has worked in the 1.16.200 beta (and the minor ones in the .200 updates) but it has a reduced effectiveness now.
