Game doesn't load

Upon starting Minecraft, the white load screen appears with the logo and loads normally. Once the second screen appears (with the nether rotational view), no menu's ever load. 

Steps to resolve so far have included:

• updating windows
• rebooting
• uninstall and reinstall Minecraft
• checking system requirements (computer exceeds current requirements)
