Placing something on the same block as chests deletes the chest

The chest hitbox is slightly smaller than the block. If you place a block (I've only tested signs) on the same block the chest is on but you are looking at the place where you would not be opening the chest, the chest and sign just get deleted, and the contents fall on the floor.
